The iLINKS Innovation Event is an annual conference with exhibition dedicated to showcasing innovation and technology and exploring the benefits that this can deliver across health and social care.

The event is organised by NHS Informatics Merseyside who provide the IT services and support to a range of health and social care organisations. This year’s event took place on Thursday 5 July 2018 at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool, which was also the 70th anniversary of our NHS.

We exhibited at the event and showcased our speech technologies. There were lots of interesting discussions and presentations on how digital technology has progressed over the past 70 years and what might be next for the digital healthcare revolution. Who knew that VR headset had been around since 1960 and can you believe that the first text message was sent in 1992? We’ve only been sending texts for 16 years? Madness.

It’s fascinating to reflect on how technology has changed but to think where we might be in another 10 or 20 years really does blow my mind. Who knows…we might finally stop using fax machines! ?

In our field I can see decision management and artificial intelligence playing a huge part in healthcare. We’ve already made significant headway in these developments with the introduction of clinical decision support and structured reporting. I think it’s only a matter of time before these advancements move out of the early adopter’s stage and move to becoming more mainstream.

Some food for thought.
